Ditch The Diet! Eat Right. Move More. Move On!
Thanksgiving is Tomorrow! FINALLY! What once sounded like an awesome idea (counting down 8 steps to a Thinner Thanksgiving) felt like it lasted way too long! So thank you and I’m sorry…
Thank you: for hanging in there with me, my tips and my stories!
I’m sorry: if you’ve missed your regularly scheduled program.
Stay tuned! Such good stuff ahead!! I’ve been keeping a very LONG list of “conversations” I want to “have” with you all. And the fun starts Monday!
So as we get ready for Thanksgiving, the last thing I will leave you with is this:
You have the best plan. You’re going to eat breakfast (step 1), pick out an outfit you feel great in (step 2), bang out a workout before the festivities begin (step 3), be mindful of your liquid calories (step 4), bring a healthy appetizer to graze on (step 5), go ahead and indulge in those seasonal favorites, passing on the normal stuff you can have any time of the year (step 6) and finally you swapped out some higher calorie, higher fat, higher salt ingredients for healthier ones (step 7). Phew. Busy day, right?
And what happens if most of that/none of that plan actually happens?
What if you just totally go for it and choose to forget you’re on this weight loss/health/wellness path for the day?
What if you’re “good” all day and then completely blow it and eat an entire pie, by yourself, in the dark, while no one is watching (all 3 calorie-free zone rules in full effect – click if you’re confused)?
Should you go home, feeling horrible? Depressed? Guilty even?
After all, you’ve been working SO hard.
This one “bad” day will really blow all of your efforts.
Completely REVERSE all those lost pounds you earned.
Wrong. (I know, shocker!)
If your plan goes awry, here comes the final and possibly the most important step.
A Thinner Thanksgiving in 8 Steps: 8. Fahgettaboudit.
Forget about it. It is what it is. Tomorrow is a new day.
It’s not the cheat that will hurt your progress; it’s what you decide to do about it the next day.
Move on. It’s done. No guilt. Fahgettaboudit.
The real damage is done when we have days that don’t go as planned and we feel guilty about it.
Which makes us depressed about the whole weight loss plan.
Which makes us say “Ah screw it, I’ll start again on Monday”.
“I’ll start again January 1st.”
“I can’t do this.”
“I fell off the wagon.”
Love this quote by Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels:
“You messed up your diet and you didn’t exercise today? So what? You didn’t ruin anything. Get back on track tomorrow. If you have one flat tire, do you slash the other three?”
Jillian pretty much hit that one out of the park!
If you went outside to get in your car before work tomorrow and found you had one tire slashed, you wouldn’t go around and slash the other three… would you?
If you dropped your new fancy iPhone (that just cost you $600) on the sidewalk, you wouldn’t pick it up and then begin to slam it on the concrete over and over again… would you?
Never forget that it’s not the slip up that will stop you from achieving everything you set out to do… it’s what you decide to do about it immediately afterward.
Ditch the diet. Eat Right. Move More. (and most importantly) Move on!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy this time with your friends and family!
